Tshangla: My Mother Tongue

Tshangla: Background Though spoken predominantly across the country, Tshangla exists as a primitive language (without a writing system), described it as an unwritten language . Tshangla also known as Sharchopkha (meaning The Language of the Easterners{Eastern Bhutan}) is the major language used in the eastern part of Bhutan, some parts of Arunachal Pradesh (India) and Tibet.  Seemingly, a large population of the Bhutanese use Tshangla . Unfortunately, it is one among the list of the world's endangered languages. Researchers has found that Tshangla is of three typical dialects including Bhutanese Tshangla, West Kemang Tshangla[India] and Pemako Tshangla [Tibet].  The studies done claim that Tshangla is a Sino-Tibetan language of Bodish type. Look Before You Leap (Year)

Leap years are those years divisible by four or four hundred where an extra day is added on the shortest month February, making 366 days in the year. There are schools of thoughts which claim that leap year is a year which brings “bad luck”. Some believe it to be a day when a woman can propose for their marriage.  Whatever it may be, I believe it as a moment to cherish because it is a one-time-in-four-years happening thing. We don’t know what would happen in the next. By the next, we are not going to be the same as we are now. We will be four years older than today. So make the day memorable- something as vibrant as you can remember vividly in the next Feb 29. And indeed it is a moment we cherish the past and look forward for a better “next”.
